New Magic Leap Video Shows off Epic Augmented Reality Robot Battles

Most of you probably remember Magic Leap. The company that managed to raise $540 million dollars in venture funding to continue the development of their (supposedly) revolutionary augmented reality tech. Well, Magic Leap is usually pretty mysterious when it comes to what they’re doing, but yesterday Magic Leap decided to tease people a little. A video was uploaded to their Youtube channel, and I have to say that it is pretty entertaining.

Check it out:

Now, Magic Leap hasn’t stated if this is footage of an actual experience or if this is just a concept video. In the video’s description they do make it sound like it’s footage of something that actually exists though.

“This is a game we’re playing around the office right now (no robots were harmed in the making of this video).”

Really though, I can’t help but be skeptical of what is seen in the video. The video has a Weta Workshop logo on it. Weta Workshop is a special effects company that has worked on movies like The Hobbit and The Amazing Spider-man 2. The video also screams “fake”. In general, the video just feels like a concept video.

At the same time, the game that is seen in the video is an actual project that Magic Leap and Weta Workshop is working on together, according to this article. So, I don’t know. Maybe the logo was just put there because they worked on the robot game together?

Maybe the video is real? Maybe Magic Leap is going to bring us the most awesome augmented reality device we have ever experienced. It’s not impossible for them to do that. Still, I’m just going to treat this video as if it showed off some concepts.
