Take Amazing Google Glass Selfies with this Free 3D Printable Accessory

Google Glass is a device that is worn on the face, so its camera is always pointed outwards. The Google Glass camera is a decent camera and can take pretty good point-of-view photos. With that being said, it’s nearly impossible to use the Google Glass camera to take a decent selfie. I mean, you can stand in front of a full-body bathroom mirror and take a selfie that way, but it’s not going to look anything like the traditional smart phone selfies that most people upload online today.

Stephane Allary, an artist in Paris, seems to have really wanted to use Google Glass to take selfies, because he went out of his way to create a 3D printable accessory for Google Glass that allows him to use the device to take perfect selfies. The 3D printable accessory involves multiple parts and mirror tape. Basically, the accessory is an attachable mirror for Google Glass that is placed right in front of the camera and the middle of the face. The accessory looks like this:

To create the accessory, you have to print off multiple movable parts and connect them. There are also two support parts which keeps the accessory connected to Google Glass. The most significant part of the accessory though is the mirror section, which connects to the end of everything. The mirror section is where the mirror tape goes and it’s the part that reflects your face and allows you to capture those oh so sweet selfies.

The accessory definitely looks a bit silly, but it does get the job done. I haven’t been able to test it myself, but from the pictures I’ve seen it seems to work quite well. Overall, it provides better results than looking in a full-body mirror and/or holding Google Glass out in front of you all crooked to take a picture. Plus, you actually get an idea of what the camera is going to capture before you actually take the picture.

I don’t see many people needing something like this, but Im sure there are some people out there who wouldn’t mind having this accessory. If you’re one of the people who wouldn’t mind having this accessory, well you can download the files for the parts here.

Also, it seems like this accessory might get a companion camera app soon. The site that the creator links to for the accessory keeps mentioning a selfie glassware. So, if you want to keep an eye out for that, then head on over to selfie-glass.com.
