Can You Wear Google Glass In The Rain?

Smart Glasses and wearable technology like Google Glass is pretty awesome. It allows you to do different tasks in an easy way, even when your hands are full. With that said, technology like smart glasses will put you in situations that you’ve never been in before. We’re not talking about getting goofy stares or having to talk to random people, but the fact that at some point you will be standing in the rain with a computer on your face.

Putting away a pair of smart glasses isn’t as easy as putting away your phone. You can’t just shove Google Glass into your pocket when it starts to rain. And, depending on your situation, you might not have a Google Glass case with you. So, what’s going to happen if you wear Google Glass in the rain? According to Explorers who have worn Google Glass in the rain, nothing.

Non-scientific tests hint that the device is a bit water resistant. Robert Scoble wore it in the shower and many other Explorers have worn it in the rain without any ill effects. It makes sense for Google to make the device water resistant when they advertise it as a device that can be used while playing a sport. When you think about sports, you think about a bunch of stinky, sweaty people. Obviously, Google has to do something to protect the device from all that sweat.

While non-scientific evidence hints at the device being water resistant, it’s probably a good idea to stay away from water if possible. Getting caught in the rain is inevitable, but don’t go jumping into every bit of water you can, because you think the device can survive it.

So, can you wear Google Glass in the rain? Yes, but try to avoid doing so if possible.
