Top News Apps for Google Glass

Google Glass is a great device to use to keep up-to-date with what is going on around the world. There’s a decent selection of news apps out for Google Glass right now. Today, I’m are going to go over some of these apps, so that you can equip your Google Glass with some of them to turn it into a news machine. Let’s begin.

Winkfeed

WinkFeed

Winkfeed is a bit more than just a news app, but it definitely belongs on this list. Winkfeed allows you to control the experience. You select the news and feeds you want to view and nothing is forced upon you. WinkFeed allows you to retrieve headlines from news sites and other feeds of your choice. Using the app, you can swipe through headlines and save them for later to view on a more reader-friendly device (phone, tablet, etc). This is the perfect app for people who read a lot of blogs.

CNN Breaking News

CNNBReakingNews

You can probably guess what this application does just based on its name. The CNN Breaking News app for Google Glass helps you stay informed with the latest from CNN. From the application, you can view the latest breaking news and up-to-the-minute reports.

Watchup

Watchup

If you like watching news videos instead of reading news, then this application is definitely for you.

Watchup has a decent selection of national news and international news video sources. Watchup for Google Glass allows you to view the latest videos from the sources of your choice. Headlines are read aloud to you when you view them, which is pretty nice. Also, when you select a video to watch it, you can pause, fast forward, and rewind the video whenever you want.

The only downside of this application is that you have to edit and manage the channels you want to view via the Watchup website.

The Guardian

TheGuardian

This is the newest news app to come to Google Glass. I’m pretty sure most of you know what The Guardian is. Well, this application helps you stay up-to-date with the latest headlines from The Guardian. With this app, you get packages of stories and breaking news alerts. Like the CNN app, you can also save articles for viewing later.

Mashable Velocity

Mashable

People say a lot of negative things about Mashable, but I like them. They don’t cover only news, so this isn’t strictly a news app. With that being said, it’s an app worth installing.

The Mashable Velocity app sends you an alert when a Mashable story is about to go viral. That’s all it does. It’s a very simple app, but if you like Mashable, then it’s worth having.

The New York Times

TheNewYork Times

Hmm, I wonder what this app does? hehe.

The New York Times app does exactly what you think it does. The New York Times app helps you stay on top of the latest NYT’s headlines. With this application, you can get hourly updates and breaking news alerts from the NYT in real time. When you come across a headline that you would like to know more about, then you just have tap it and the article summary will be read aloud. Considering NYT is a pretty big news site, you should definitely have this app on your Google Glass.

Conclusion

So, those are all the news apps for Google Glass that I recommend for you to install. New Glassware is coming out every day, so it shouldn’t be too long before we get even more news apps. With that being said, the apps above should provide you with enough news so that you don’t miss much when it comes to things happening around the world.
