Oculus Rift Price

Oculus opened up preorders for its virtual reality headset on January 6, but the device will be shipped from March 28 and the backers who supported the project on Kickstarter and donated more thank $275 will get a free consumer version of the Oculus Rift. The first Development Kit was released in late 2012 and the second DK arrived two years later, but now, it’s time for Oculus to move on to the next level and finally launch the Consumer Edition, which will cost 499 / $599 without shipping.

Right after Oculus released the first Development Kit, Mark Zuckerberg has made an irresistible offer of $2bn and in the summer of 2014, the deal was made. Until now, every acquisition made by Facebook was successful and it was predictable that virtual reality will be the new technology that will fascinate everyone. Google has made the first step and released the Cardboard, HTC will open preorder for its Vive VR headset on February 29th and the PlayStation VR is also expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2016.

Most likely, the Oculus Rift will hit the stores by June 2016, although Oculus promised retailers that the headset will “be in retail starting in April”. Also, the customers who preordered the Oculus Rift will receive a free copy of the EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale games. The price of the VR device will be $599, but the buyers will need to pay taxes and will also support the shipment cost. However, the in-store prices will be higher once the Oculus Rift will be available worldwide, and, in addition to that, the users will need a top end computer so that the headset can run at an optimal level. The PC will need to have a processor equivalent to an Intel i5-4590 and the GPU must be NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD 290, or something similar. And the price of a high-end PC will amount to $1000, so if you can’t afford to make this investment, there’s no point in spending $599 on the Oculus Rift.

However, in the box, besides the headset, will be included a camera, a Oculus Remote, an Xbox One controller and the two games we told you about above.
