If you’ve managed to put aside $600 and you’re living in the US, soon, the Oculus Rift will be in your hands. The Rift will be shipped in March to those who pre-ordered it and once they’ll enter the fascinating virtual world, they’ll never want to return to the real world. If you’re one of the people who are still undecided whether to buy this headset or not, then maybe you’ll get to a conclusion after we’ll tell you about the advantages and disadvantages of spending your money on the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display and you’ll decide if it’s worth purchasing this device or not.

First of all, Oculus, in 2012, the creator of Oculus Rift, launched a Kickstarter campaign because it needed money to develop the virtual reality headset and the project was brought to life thanks to over 9,500 backers who pledged $2,437,429. Oculus built many prototype versions which have been presented to the public and finally, the first Development Kit arrived in the late 2012, while the Consumer Version was sent to those who donated money on Kickstarter. In 2014, Oculus has released the second Development Kit and during this time, developers had the chance to develop high quality applications and games for the upcoming VR headset, which will be officially launched on March 28.

Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift started on January 6 and once the device will be released, it will be shipped to customers from the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Japan and New Zealand.

The Oculus Rift will have an OLED panel for each eye, and screen will support a Full HD resolution, and will have a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The headset will connect to a very powerful gaming computer which runs on Windows and has a GPU similar to NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970 or AMD’s R9 290, while the processor might be the equivalent to an Intel i5-4590. This means that you’ll spend an extra $1000 to meet the requirements, so if you have a weak PC, then you should upgrade it right away.

If the high price of the VR headset and the compatible high-end computer are not a problem, then you’ll be happy that you’ve bought the Oculus Rift, because in the box, you’ll find a wireless Microsoft Xbox One controller, two free games: EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale, plus a sensor, an Oculus remote, a stand, a wireless adapter and cables to connect it to a computer.
