Sony’s SmartEyeglass is Now Available for Pre-order

On Tuesday, Sony made the developer edition of their SmartEyeglass augmented reality glasses available for pre-order.

Right now, people in the UK and Germany can pre-order a pair of SmartEyeglasses for $840 USD (£540 or €670). Pre-orders are not available for anyone who lives outside of the UK and Germany. With that being said, everyone in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany will be able to buy the developer version of the device when it officially goes on sale on March 10th.

SmartEyeglass functions similarly to other smart glasses and superimposes information over the user’s field of view to enhance and make their life easier. It features a 419×138 monochrome display, 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a speaker, a microphone, an external controller and the usual bundle of sensors that you find in other pairs of smart glasses. Inside you will find the following sensors: an accelerometer, gyroscope, brightness sensor and an electronic compass.

Along with the pre-orders, Sony also announced that they will begin providing an official SDK for the device so that people can start working on some apps.
