Vuzix launches app store for M100 Smart Glasses

Vuzix M100 Use-1

Yesterday, Vuzix launched an official app store for its M100 smart glasses. Currently, the app store has over 30 apps across multiple categories. A considerable chunk of the apps already on the store are augmented reality apps. But, there are also some pretty standard apps such as Pandora, Instagram, Spotify and Netflix on the store already as well.

“We are thrilled to be launching our new App Store for our thousands of M100 users,” said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix. “The App Store is an ideal venue for Vuzix users to find the best apps on the market for their M100 Smart Glasses in an easy-to-use and convenient virtual storefront. No matter the customer, users will be able to maximize the value of their Smart Glasses today and into the future as we are making sure to add the latest apps on a regular basis.”

Right now, all the applications on the Vuzix app store are available for free. For a while, developers will be unable to charge money for the apps they add to the store. But, Vuzix will enable paid apps in about a year, so that developers can get some sweet cash for creating apps.

For a while, Vuzix was focusing mostly on enterprise with their Vuzix M100 smart glasses. In the past few months though, they’ve really been making an effort to get their device on the faces of regular consumers. With the OS 2.0 update, and now the new app store. Vuzix is really getting their stuff together and the M100 is becoming a serious competitor to Google Glass.
