Vuzix Partners with HERE to Bring Better Mapping to M100

Today, Vuzix announced that they have signed a licensing agreement with HERE, which is a Nokia company that specializes in mapping and location services. The signed agreement will allow Vuzix to implement HERE’s location and mapping services into their M100 smart glasses. Basically, making HERE the primary mapping service on the M100.

With the integration of HERE’s mapping technology and the components inside of the m100 smart glasses, developers will be able to create new types of standalone map apps and even implement mapping features into regular apps.

Some of HERE’s features include:

  • Ability to overlay application customized data onto HERE base map, providing a high quality customized map user experience.
  • Offline Navigation and map search.
  • Turn-by-turn drive or walk guidance without an internet connection for 118 countries.
  • Detailed maps for download to use offline with your M100 Smart Glasses.
  • Integration with Bluetooth beacons and other short-range location devices in addition to GPS and network localization for high accuracy, high resolution localized mapping.
  • Public transport maps and directions for more than 800 cities in more than 40 countries available without an internet connection and live traffic information for more than 40 countries.

HERE has route and navigation information for hundreds of countries. HERE’s mapping technology / services can be found in some apps on smart phones and is included in the Samsung Gear S as well. Also, HERE’s technology can be found in millions of cars. Overall, HERE isn’t some random small mapping company and their mapping tech should definitely benefit some M100 developers and users.
